Hi there, I’m Emma Chalmers, mum of three and founder of Rocking Rascals, an events company that specialises in delivering highly energetic and lively parties for children’s birthdays and to accompany weddings and conferences.
It all started a few years ago … because I wanted to dance in public again. (Well they say children can really effect you social life!!)
Seriously, I love to have a dance and my children love to have a jump and a wiggle so I thought, why not do this on a bigger scale? My kitchen floor was beginning to wear out from our post-dinner family moving and groving! I started organising discos where parents and kids could rock together and the concept behind Rocking Rascals was born.
It is all about organising events and activities where children and their parents have great fun together. I use music, dance, dressing up, imagination games, adventures, quizzes … you name it, but the key is building in a level of interaction that helps parents and children communicate with one another on multiple levels.
Most of the activities I write about here are for kids between 4 and 9, but they can be used with younger kids too.
So what else? I’m Irish and in my mid-30s. I lived in San Francisco for 6 years, returned home to Ireland to find a good Irish man and ended up marrying a Scot – the lovely Innes. We moved to Scotland in 2003 and now have three lovely rascals of our own – Megan, Rachel and Malachy. My previous jobs have included selling Wellington boots, being a nanny, training stock brokers and setting up Ireland’s first concierge company.
